Amnesty International

Founded in 1961, Amnesty International is a Nobel Prize-winning grassroots human rights organization with over 2.5 million members worldwide. Amnesty International’s research and action is focused on preventing and ending discrimination, unjust imprisonment, torture and executions and defending freedom of thought, expression and identity. Current campaigns focus on, among other things, stopping violence against women, seeking justice in the “war on terror,” and promoting healthcare as a human right. Grassroots Campaigns staff  begin working to expand Amnesty International’s member base in August 2008.
