Josh Downey
Lead Organizer
Denver, CO
Josh
came on board with GCI in October of 2005 working on referendum
C & D in Colorado. Following that victory, Josh began organizing
for MoveOn.org’s Operation Democracy project recruiting, training,
and managing volunteers in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico,
Nevada, and Utah. In 2006 he oversaw our Denver and Albuquerque
Call for Change offices, and currently is Lead Organizer, overseeing
staff in Texas, Massachusetts, and Colorado.
Josh got his start in grassroots
politics while going to college at Drake University in Des Moines,
Iowa. Having experienced the face-to-face, neighbor-to-neighbor
politics of the Iowa caucuses, he knew that this was what hewanted
to do. However, after starting a small progressive group in Iowa
to achieve great things, it became apparent that while he had the
passion to effect change, he did not have all the tools. Having
come on board with GCI in 2005, Josh can now humbly say that he
has flamed his passion for grassroots politics while learning the
skills necessary to put his passion to use.
Mike Batchelder
Field Organizer
Boston, MA
Mike
currently works as a Field Organizer with GCI on MoveOn.org's Operation
Democracy project. His work takes him all over the Upper Midwest
to recruit, train and manage MoveOn members to build local volunteer
teams and organize press events around issues like ending the War
in Iraq and finding solutions to our current Health Care crisis.
Mike also worked with MoveOn.org on its 2004 and 2006 election campaigns
in Pennsylvania and Ohio to turn out thousands of voters to the
polls.
In addition to his work with MoveOn,
Mike spent parts of 2004 and 2005working as an Assistant Canvass
Director in Boston on behalf of the Democratic National Committee
and their fundraising campaign to recruit new small donors. Mike
currently resides in the "best neighborhood in Boston,"
Jamaica Plain.
