Grassroots Campaigns uses face-to-face outreach to rally average Americans behind issues like civil liberties, environmental protection, LGBT equality, poverty and social justice. Our firm partners with other political organizations to run their membership, fundraising and field organizing campaigns. From our early, game-changing work with the DNC and MoveOn, to our more recent partnerships with the ACLU, Amnesty International and Planned Parenthood, Grassroots Campaigns has become a prominent force for the progressive movement.
The heart of our work lies in each campaign we run, and our Project Managers make sure those campaigns are planned and executed successfully. We’re looking for a passionate, professional and analytical candidate to be a liaison between Grassroots Campaigns program staff and the progressive leaders that hire us to run their field campaigns.
Position Summary: When an organization like Save the Children or the Sierra Club comes to us to run an outreach campaign, a Project Manager works with our staff and the partner group’s staff to shepherd the strategy, messaging and plan. Our Projects Team establishes relationships with leading progressive thinkers and determines the best way we can serve their cause, launching and tracking the plan as it unfolds. They strengthen our existing partnerships while seeking out new potential campaigns.
Qualifications: Candidates must have a strong combination of communication skills and command over data and planning. Verbal, written and particularly persuasive skills must be strong. The importance of this is twofold, as executives interact with a variety of partner groups, but also guide the messaging within each campaign. Candidates must have a commitment to progressive change, great work ethic and professionalism. Good quantitative analysis skills are key, and familiarity with Excel is a plus. Experience with small donor fundraising and/or field work preferred. 2-4+ years of project management experience required. This position requires travel.
- Assist clients with planning future campaigns, including developing program projections and budgets.
- Develop campaign content, including writing scripts, fact sheets, and other materials.
- Communicate campaign expectations to operational staff.
- Monitor and report on program performance, with high level of rigor with tracking actuals vs. goals.
- Provide analysis on performance and make recommendations to our staff and to clients.
- Travel to field offices and do hands-on field work and training.
- Conceive, plan and execute tests to improve program results.
- Troubleshoot problems or complaints.
- Work to ensure all contract obligations are met.
- Network and develop relationships with new potential partners, attend conferences and events.
- Train and recruit staff (including traveling to national training events).
- Participate in regular national planning meetings and conference calls.
Work Environment: Based in one of our national offices, but fast-paced with time in the field. Project Managers should expect to travel and work remotely often. We have field offices and partner groups across the country, so communicating with internal and partner staff from afar will be common. A workday might involve a planning meeting with a political nonprofit’s staff, a training session with canvass staff, and a call to evaluate performance with our leadership team.
Location: Washington, D.C., New York. (Boston may also be considered)
Salary/Benefits: Commensurate with experience.
