Victoria Morrell, Canvass Director, Los Angeles

Originally from New York, Victoria received a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Philosophy at the State University of New York at New Paltz where she also minored in journalism. In 2011, while still in school, the Occupy Wall Street movement was in full swing, and Victoria’s love of progressive politics grew as she traveled to and from New York City to interview (and then stand with) Occupy protestors. Since then, Victoria has been an active part of many progressive victories. In 2014, after running her own door-to-door canvass operation to ban hydraulic-fracturing in New York State, Governor Cuomo made the decision to do the right thing by the environment and New Yorkers. It was then that Victoria realized just how powerful face-to-face fundraising and everyday activism could be.

Now in her second year with Grassroots Campaigns Inc., Victoria is the lead Canvass Director in Los Angeles. Since coming to GCI Victoria has lead numerous campaigns. She has worked with the American Civil Liberties Union for marriage equality, has fought to end hate groups with the Southern Poverty Law Center, she brought aid to doctors in the Central African Republic with Doctors Without Borders, and made the case for civil rights for the LGBTQ community with Lambda Legal. She has stood up to anti-choice politicians with The Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and The Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and launched a campaign for the Democratic National Committee.

While each campaign brings a new victory and new accomplishment Victoria feels that the best part of her job is giving like-minded people the tools they need to grow as activists.

“I love training new canvassers and teaching people how to turn passion into a tangible skill. When someone finds their footing and learns more about their own political beliefs then I know I’ve done my job. I have the privilege of watching that happen everyday.”
